The Yellow Brick Challenge, a LEGO® brick building contest hosted by Greene Bean Coffee and co-sponsored by GreeneCountyNewsOnline , drew a total of 17 entries.
Contestants used LEGO bricks to build creations that reflected the Bell Tower Festival theme, Iowa’s Emerald County: There’s no place like home. Entries were judged based on creativity, use of the theme, and innovative use of LEGO bricks.
Two independent judges selected the winners as follows:
Children (ages 12 and younger), first place – “Emerald City” by Ethan and Lillian Sloan, second place – “Dorothy Meets Scarecrow” by Mason Wampler, and third place – “Greene County Town Square” by Dalton Butler.
Teens (ages 13-19), first place – “The Road to the Emerald Bell Tower” by Mason Osborne, second place – “A Break in the Road” by Adam Orfield, and third place – “Hamburger” by Emily Joy.
Adults (ages 20 and older), first place – “Crash Landing” by Ashley Danielson, second place – “Road to Oz” by Trevor Ross, and third place – “All Roads Lead Back Home” by Kevin Orfield.
Family, first place – “House: 1, Witch: 0” by ADD Designs, and second – untitled creation by Andrea Wailes and family.
First place winners received $10 Pizza Ranch gift cards, second place winners received $5 Sierra Community Theatre gift cards, and third place winners received a certificate for a ride to the top of the Mahanay Bell Tower.
All contestants who used their personal LEGO bricks are reminded to pick up their creations before June 23. After June 23, creations will be dismantled and the bricks will be given to a charity of the hosts’ choosing. Winnners can pick up their prizes at Greene Bean Coffee.
